William Carl Bumgarner, 87, Wasilla, passed away March 10, 2014, at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center.

He was born March 10, 1927, in Litchfield, Ill. William became a resident of Alaska in 1948, living in Seward, Anchorage and most recently in Wasilla. William was a skilled sheet metal worker and charter member of Local 23. He was an owner and/or partner in Glacier Mechanical of Anchorage, Bay City Motors of Seward and retiring in 1992 as owner of Noble Mechanical Inc. of Anchorage. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. William also served his country in the U.S. Army.

William enjoyed boating, snowmachining and building off-road hunting vehicles, and owned Uniflite the “Polaris” in Seward.

William was loved dearly by his family and friends. He was a patient man, a problem-solver and was known to crack many jokes for family and friends. William was a composed individual and when he said something it was usually his final word on the subject. He was very self-sufficient and self-motivated and rarely would ask for help. William dearly missed his sweet wife Georgina of 62 years, who preceded him in death. We shall remember him. As promised, William and Georgina’s ashes will be scattered together over Mount Susitna.

Survivors include sister-in-law, Ruth (John) Swank of Layton, Utah; brothers-in-law, Bob (Jane) Sullivan of Rocklin, Calif. and Lyle (Kay) Sullivan of Calistoga, Calif.; sons, Warren (Cyndi) Bumgarner of Big Lake and John (Laurie) Bumgarner of Anchorage; granddaughters, Danielle Barrett of Big Lake, Melissa-Keith Williams, Tracy Thompson and Wendy Hoverfield, all of Anchorage; and great-grandchildren, Jamus and Emmett of Wasilla, Lilyana and Keeran Noble, Kaylyn Barlow, Christopher and Kara Thompson, Kandus Lee and Joshua Lamb, all of Anchorage.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Noble and Alice Bumgarner; brothers, James and Jack Bumgarner; and sisters, Iris Bumgarner and Helen Fay.
