It is with great sorrow that we announce the death of William F. Attwood, known to friends & family as Pappy or Bill. He passed from this Earth Dec. 26, 2016, at home in Houston, Alaska, less than two weeks before his 92nd birthday.

He was born in Pasadena, California on Jan. 8, 1925 where he spent most of his formative years before joining the US Navy as a CB in 1943. He was part of the second wave landing on Iwo Jima and was there for nine months. He almost died there six different times. He left the service and spent several years working in logging camps in Washington, Oregon, California and Alaska before he got the rock bug. He attended the University of Alaska - Fairbanks starting in about 1951, to earn his bachelor’s degree in Geology and later his masters in calculus.

He is preceded in death by Patrick Anderson and Jeannie Attwood. He is survived by 11 living children, Annie Johnson, Michael Anderson, Bruce Attwood, Ron Lundy, Wil Attwood, Tom Attwood, Tim Attwood, William Kendall, Joanna Eppler, Jeri Attwood, and Reuel Attwood, as well as numerous grand/great and great-great-grandchildren.

There will be a military service with honors on Fort Rich Friday, Dec. 30, 2016 at 2:30 p.m. Be at Fort Rich gate by 2:15 for escort.

The Celebration of Life with a potluck and sharing of memories is on Saturday, Dec. 31, 2016, from 1-4 p.m. at Centre on C, 6000 C Street Anchorage Alaska. For info, please call or text 907-382-8397.
