William Mootz, 17, died Aug. 22, 2012.

He was born in Milwaukee, Wisc., on June 12, 1995.

He was an active member of the Boy Scouts and spent three weeks as a counselor at Kimball Scout Reservation this summer. He was a valued member of the Green Valley High School Madrigal Choir. William’s passion was the time he spent outdoors.

Whether Jet-Skiing, wakeboarding, riding bikes, running RC cars or fishing and hunting at his grandfather’s cabin in Alaska and with his family in Wisconsin, William lived life to the fullest.

William was very active and fun loving, but his best quality was his heart for people. He spent countless hours Dumpster diving for parts to build bikes for neighbor kids who couldn’t afford them. He always took the time to care, was willing to talk to people just to make them feel better or make their day a little brighter. He was a leader amongst his peers and not afraid to question things in order to make positive changes in the community. He might not have always been politically correct, but his intent was always selfless.

A memorial service honoring this extraordinary life is at 10 a.m., Sept. 1 at the Plaza Hotel Ballroom in Las Vegas, Nev., with a reception immediately following.
