William Pharis Locke III was born in Fort Stockton, Texas, on April 12, 1948. His family settled in Corona, N.M., where he completed primary and secondary school. After school, he joined the U.S. Army, where he had an illustrious football career. Wil finished college in Arizona and met his lovely wife in Clovis, N.M.
Life brought them to Alaska, where they made a home and where they still remain. Wil Locke was a man who loved deeply, spoke wisely, laughed freely, gave generously, worked diligently and lived genuinely. Wil loved and cherished one woman, Lynda, his wife of 42 years. He poured his life into the raising and shaping of his five children, blessing them in every way imaginable.
He was a true and loyal friend, and he selflessly gave to those in need, never asking anything in return. Wil worked with his hands and built structures as well as a legacy. He possessed an infectious charisma that moved people to love him, and his laugh had the power to stir up joy in the soul. His life was marked by freedom and delight, qualities that welled up from a deep and devoted love for his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He is fondly remembered by all who knew him.
Following an intense battle with cancer, on the evening of July 24, 2013 at Elmendorf Hospital, William Pharis Locke III laid down the cares of this world and met Jesus face to face. Though we are saddened by his departure, we are comforted in knowing that he is free.
A celebration of life is at 2 p.m., Aug. 3 at the home of Bart and Brooke Locke. For more information, contact wplocke3@gmail.com. The family requests that your memories of William be preserved in print. Please email or bring them to the celebration of life.
