In what feels like same story, different weekends, there is a winter storm watch for the Mat-Su Valley and Hatcher Pass into Eagle River and Anchorage, which calls for snow, with accumulations between 4 and 12 inches, with locally higher amounts possible.
And just for fun, winds could gust as high as 30 mph. Whiteout conditions are possible and may make travel treacherous. The hazardous conditions could impact the Friday evening commute.
The watch, issued by the National Weather Service (NWS), forecasts for snow to spread into the Mat-Su Valleys and Anchorage from the southeast to northwest from Friday evening into Saturday morning, then slowing through Sunday morning.
The NWS says most locations will likely see total snowfall on the lower end of expected amounts. A corridor of more intense snowfall is likely across portions of the Mat-Su Valleys and Anchorage.
However, there remains a high degree of uncertainty regarding where the heavier snowfall will develop. Winds from the northeast could lead to areas of blowing and drifting snow, especially near Broad Pass and parts of the Matanuska Valley.
This is a developing story.
