Numerous weather alerts are in effect for the state, and a winter weather advisory will go into effect for parts of the Susitna from 10 a.m. Monday morning and lasting until 1 a.m. Tuesday morning. Mixed precipitation is to be expected, with accumulated snow likely along and north of Talkeetna. Six to 10 inches of snow is possible for areas north of Talkeetna, while areas near and surrounding Talkeetna could see one to three inches of snow, with just under an inch of ice accumulation. A trace of ice is possible as far south as Willow.
The Matanuska-Susitna Borough School District cancelled after school activities for Willow Elementary, Trapper Creek Elementary, Talkeetna Elementary, and Su-Valley Jr/Sr High School, Willow for Monday, October 21 due to inclement weather.
Clouds will move in through the night, accompanied with a warmer air mass, and as most Alaskans will say, that means temperatures will be slightly warmer, with most in the Southcentral in the 40s. Winds are expected to increase, with winds upwards of 30 miles per hour. This bump into the higher temperatures will also bring precipitation across the area into the Susitna Valley.
It is possible that if cold air remain in some parts of the valley, Wasilla and Palmer could see some wintry mix.
As the rain and snow ends into Tuesday, expect much quieter weather through the middle of the week. Later this week, residents are advised to brace for colder temperatures as highs are expected to dip back into the freezing range during the daytime and nighttime temperatures dip in the 20s and teens this weekend.
