Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Wythle J. Gershmel, 73, died of terminal cancer on Jan. 11, 2014, at home in Wasilla surrounded by family.
She was born Jan. 11, 1941, in Anchorage. She graduated in Wasilla. Wythle liked playing her piano and organ, singing, baking, bingo, traveling and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her sons, Patrick of Wasilla, Brian (Stacy) of California and Bruce (Rhonda) of Colorado; daughters, Charlene (Herb) of Wasilla, Marietta (Ed) of Wasilla and Patty Jo (Jay) of Wasilla; granddaughters, Alanna (Samuel), Amber, Emily and Brittany, all of Wasilla, and Camry of Palmer; grandsons, Roy, Kyle and Noah, all of Wasilla, Dustin of Texas, and Dylan and Kory of Colorado; great-grandsons, Brian, Draiden, Juvenal, Isaiah and Blake, all of Wasilla, and Matix of Colorado; great-granddaughters, Tatum of Texas and Karlee of Colorado; brother, Franz of Anchorage; and sisters, Barbara of California, Sally of Washington and Maureen of Fairbanks.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alan Gershmel; and brothers, Leroy, John, Jake and Willie.
The family will have services in the spring.
Arrangements are with Alaskan Heritage Memorial Chapel and Crematory of Wasilla.
