MAT-SU — The public has until June 1 to comment on the Mat-Su Borough’s Draft Stormwater Management Plan. The plan is online at matsustormwater.info.
Public input is sought to provide information and recommendations that can help the region address water quality and drainage issues. Stormwater management enhances flood and drainage control, helps protect drinking water sources and supports clean waterways and healthy fish stocks.
A stormwater advisory group worked with the borough to develop this plan with representatives from the region’s public works departments (cities of Wasilla, Palmer, Houston and the borough), agency representatives, water scientists, Alaska Department of Transportation, utilities, private developers and site construction and real estate industry representatives. Because water issues are regional in nature, the plan incorporates tools to support collaborative efforts, primarily focused in the borough’s more densely populated areas. A tool is considered as any means or method that can enhance water quality or help to address, control or dispose of stormwater.
