Mat-Su District Cooperative Extension Agriculture and Horticulture agent Steve Brown will teach a series of classes April 30 to May 4 in the MTA Meeting Room, 480 Commercial Drive, Palmer. Classes are free, but people must preregister online at uaf.edu/ces/districts/matsu/aghortland/spring-class/.
Classes are:
• “Alaska Gardening 101,” from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., April 30. Learn the fundamentals of gardening in Alaska. This course will discuss starting plants, hardening off, composting, soil preparation, greenhouse fundamentals, plant selection and more!
• “Composting in Alaska,” 6:30 to 8 p.m., May 1. Learn the fundamentals of composting using locally available materials and resources.
• “Lawn Establishment and Maintenance,” from 6:30 to 8 p.m., May 2.
• “Chicken University,” from 6:30 to 8 p.m., May 4. Learn the fundamentals of selecting birds, building coops, feeding, hygiene, getting hens to lay and believe it or not, chicken psychology.
