Dr. Scott Allen Methven
Dr. Scott Allen Methven, loving husband and father, lost his battle with depression on March 13, 2022, at the age of 47.
Scott was born August 8,1974, in Ann Arbor, Michigan to Allen Methven and Leslie Hursfall. Scott graduated from Roscommon High School in 1992, after which he attended Michigan State University for 3 years and The University of North Carolina for 1 year. Scott earned his dental degree at the University of Detroit Mercy, in 2001. He moved to Alaska, on September 1, 2001, and opened his dental practice, Aesthetic Family Dentistry, on April 10, 2005.
Continuing advanced education was extremely important to Scott to ensure high standards of patient care; he received many certifications in his field. Scott was known as a perfectionist, and the quality of his dental work reflects this. He truly cared for each patient, and would often donate dental services.
Scott was a member of the Academy of Clear Aligners (AACA). This wonderful group of dentists across North America became like family. AACA was a place where Scott could truly share his passion and knowledge for dentistry. The AACA group has given us immense support during these difficult times.
Scott’s passion for dentistry started at a young age. Watching his beloved father Allen Methven practice dentistry, he knew he would also become a dentist one day. Scott looked up to his father and grew up fishing and hunting alongside him. Watching his father lose his battle with cancer in March 2022 was extremely painful.
Scott was the most thoughtful, generous, and caring man. His kindness and willingness to help others helped spread love into this world. He had the best sense of humor and made all of us laugh every day. He was the smartest man that I have ever met and he could share facts about any subject. He was the life of the party with his big smile.
He loved traveling, live music, playing guitar, fishing, camping, and most of all spending time with family and friends.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 16 years, Melissa Methven; Children: Sophia and Mateas; Mother: Leslie Hursfall; Step-Mother: Jill Methven; Brother: Nick (Erin) Methven; Step-Siblings: Ryan (Josie) Crandell, Ty (Venessa) Crandell, Trisha (Luc) Laverdiere; Aunt Pam (Dan) Whitted; 4 nieces: Berit, Tyra, Penelope and Lillian; 2 nephews: Brayden and Ethan; and many other family members and friends.
A celebration of life will be held at the Methven Family Vineyard in Oregon on Sunday, June 5th at 1 pm.
I chose, in this case, to do something to make people think about a very real problem. This is a situation where it is best to be honest and hope to save some lives in the future.
