g time Palmer/Anchorage resident, Leonard Eugene “Gene” Grasser, passed away December 1, 2022, while staying at the Anchorage Pioneer Home.

There will not be a service per Gene’s request. His ashes will be scattered at a later date.

Gene was born in Seward, Pennsylvania December 31, 1929 to Dorsey Edward Grasser (deceased) and Mary Ruth (Bowker) Grasser (deceased). He graduated high school and entered the United States Marine Corps as Automotive Mechanic (December 1947 – December 1951), he also served in the United States Air Force (February 1961 — April 65) as a Nuclear Weapons Specialist. He received an Honorable Discharge from the Marines and the Air Force.

Gene married Mary Emma Killinger and they had a son named Michael E. Grasser (deceased). Gene was also married to Karen Grasser (Anchorage School District teacher) until her death. Gene and Lorita Duffy (deceased) were companions for many years.

During Gene’s life he was a farm worker, carpenter, a horse trainer, guest host at the Willow Camp Ground for many years, and a volunteer at the Palmer Senior Center before moving to an assisted living home in Anchorage then the Anchorage Pioneer Home.

Gene is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers James “Jim” Grasser, Donald (Donny) Grasser, William “Bill” Grasser, Jack Grasser, Russell Grasser, Kenneth Grasser, Albert Grasser, and his sisters, Joyce (Grasser) Kuntz, Genevieve “Dolly” (Grasser) Hall,and Mary Elizabeth Grasser. He is survived by his brother Harry Grasser and sisters Lindy (Grasser) Evans, and Betty (Grasser) Mann.

Gene enjoyed his time fishing and hunting for food, walking in his neighborhood and Willow Camp Ground and chocolate. He was generous and friendly to many people; he will be greatly missed by the people he was close to during his life.
