TALKEETNA — Susitna River Coalition and Northern Susitna Institute have organized a Susitna Watershed Speaker Series on the fourth Friday of every month through May. All presentations are at 7 p.m. at the Northern Susitna Institute building near downtown.
Speakers will not discuss the proposed Susitna dam directly, but presentations will help inform people about the river, the risks and alternatives to a dam.
Presentations are:
• Jan. 24 — “Ecological Risk Assessment of the Susitna River,” presented by Corinne Smith and Tara Moberg, The Nature Conservancy.
• Feb. 28 — “Rivers In Winter: The Northern Water Cycle, How Moving Water Freezes, What Goes On Under the Ice, and A Little Bit About Breakup,” presented by Robin BeeBee, U.S. Geological Survey Hydrologist.
• March 28 — “How Laws Protect Watersheds,” presented by Emily Anderson, Wild Salmon Center.
• April 25 — “How Distribution and Characteristics Of Habitat Influence Juvenile Salmon Growth and Survival,” presented by Jeff Davis, Aquatic Restoration and Research Institute.
• May 23 — “Energy Policy, Programs and Projects in the Railbelt: An Overview,” presented by Chris Rose, Renewable Energy Alaska Project.
