Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Theodore E. Cox, 61, passed away June 24, 2015, at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center with his wife by his side.
Ted was born Dec. 28, 1953, in Akron, Ohio. After graduating from the University of Tennessee, he moved to Palmer in the mid-1970s. Ted worked for the USDA, Natural Resources Conservation Service, as a Geographic Information Specialist and soil scientist until retiring in 2012.
Ted enjoyed traveling, spending time in Asia, South America and the continental U.S. Hawaii was a favorite destination. In retirement, he became a self-taught photographer, spending many hours documenting his travels and his favorite subject, grandson Emmit. Ted obtained his private pilot’s license in 1980, discovering a joy of flying which was with him the rest of his life.
Ted married in 2001, obtaining a ready-made family. He embraced his role of husband and father with ease.
He is survived by his wife, Christine; daughter, Christa Kendall (husband Onnie); son, Carsten Gardner; grandson, Emmit Kendall, all of Anchorage; sister, Sue Evans in South Carolina; and brothers, Chuck in Ecuador and Andy in Ohio.
Ted was deeply loved and is dearly missed.
A celebration of life is July 12 at his home.
