MAT-SU — This summer a Wasilla Soil and Water Conservation District crew will meet with land owners to assess the stream bank along the Cottonwood Creek corridor from the Palmer Wasilla Highway to Cook Inlet for potential restoration sites and reed canary grass removal and/or treatments.
The goal is to improve fish habitat and water quality in the creek while preserving private property uses.
Cottonwood Creek is listed as an impaired waterway. The project is funded by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
A public information meeting is from 7 to 8:15 p.m., June 17 at Fairview Loop Baptist Church, 3118 Fairview Loop Road, on the inlet side of the road. Summer plans for 2013-14, restoration project examples, funding, invasive plants and literature resources will be presented.
